Dear Leaders,

CHEK cares about Kentucky home school families, but we know that most of these families’ lives are touched by their local home school groups. What you are doing as support group leaders is absolutely crucial. You are influencing families for eternity with your meetings, fellowship, phone calls, co-ops, field trips, newsletters, activities, and more.

Our annual CHEK Leadership Conference is designed to inform and encourage YOU in what you're doing for the homeschoolers in your area. We know that it's difficult to serve when your own tank is running on empty. This is our chance to fill your tank with inspiration and practical tips. We'd love to have representatives from every home school group in Kentucky.

Please mark your calendar for this date and invite others from your group to attend. We aren't sticklers about titles. It doesn't have to be your President or Director; we'd love to have the mom that organizes field trips or sends out your newsletter, and the dad that teaches at co-op, too!  We have set up a convenient online registration.   You may register yourself and others attending from your group or they can register themselves.

Everything is on us. We'll even feed you! Remember to register, so we have plenty of food for everyone. This is just a one-day workshop from 9-3 so it should be easy to work into your schedule. It will be a relaxed atmosphere, think business luncheon.   Be our guest and see how CHEK can help you keep going strong in your commitment to the LORD, your families, and your area homeschoolers.

We are praying for you and your group. We hope to see you at the Leadership Conference.

Sincerely,
The Board of Christian Home Educators of Kentucky

Basic to leadership is to know who you are and where you are going.  Home school leaders around the country are asking the question, “Is the home school vision really about homeschooling, or is it about something more, something that will impact culture in future generations?”  Yet we have seen the vision fade as it blends into the wider culture or as it is consumed by the growing panoply of educational choices. How do we press a vision into the generations?   Increasingly, we find ourselves playing the part of the repairers of the breach, the restorers of lost paths.  Indeed, we are tasked with laying down a foundation for many generations. And the home school movement offers a rich context in which to impart this multi-generational vision. Drawing from over 35 years in the homeschooling movement, Kevin Swanson identifies what it takes to solidify and perpetuate the vision through the generations.

2:50 p.m.—3:00 p.m.—Special Gift drawings and Prayer

What other leaders are saying about the Conference:

My wife and I coordinate the teen activities for our home school organization, Oldham Christian Home Educators (OCHE). We are members of CHEK and last year we learned of the CHEK leadership conference. I was free that day so I decided to attend and see what it was like. I am so glad I did! Not only did I get to meet the CHEK leadership team and learn a little about their vision for homeschooling in KY, I was also encouraged greatly in my own relationship with God and commitment to home school our children. The speakers offered a lot of insight as well as practical information. I am looking forward to attending this year, as I have heard Kevin Swanson speak before and know that he is a dynamic and Godly teacher in the home school community. I hope to see lots of you there! --Scott Weberg

We've been members of CHEK for a number of years, but had our first opportunity to attend the Leadership Conference in January 2009. While it was our intent to simply be a stand-in for someone who was unable to attend, God had other plans. We were encouraged by the many couples that we met who were actively involved in training their children. Our reasons for homeschooling were reinforced. We were thankful after hearing of the "good fight" fought so that we can enjoy the freedom to homeschool today. We came away from the conference encouraged, enlightened and excited about God's plan for the education of our children. I highly encourage you to attend this event. It will be time well spent. Hope to see you there! -- Brandon Buffin, Georgetown Home School Group
